Mr. Larry Carr, Carr & Company Lawyers
Larry Carr obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring
in Economics, from the University of Ottawa in 1965 and his Bachelor of Laws
(LL.B.) degree from Queen's University in 1968. In 2003, he obtained a Master
of Laws (LL.M.) degree, with specialization in Securities Law, from Osgoode
Hall Law School (York University). He was admitted to the Bar of Ontario in
1970 and was engaged in the private practice of law in Ottawa for 3 years.
In 1973, he was appointed Vice-President, General Counsel and Corporate
Secretary of Campeau Corporation. In 1979, he moved to Edmonton to become
Vice-President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Banister
Continental Ltd. He was admitted to the Bar of Alberta and returned to the
private practice of law in Edmonton in 1982. Larry was appointed Queen's
Counsel in 1990.
Throughout his career, Larry has been engaged in corporate
and commercial law. As in-house corporate counsel, Larry has learned to take
a practical approach to law and to develop strategies to accomplish his
clients' objectives. He continues to help clients in financing their
operations, selling and purchasing businesses and real estate, negotiating
construction contracts and resolving disputes, enforcing builders' liens,
obtaining public financing, listing shares on stock exchanges in both
Canada and the U.S., and completing corporate re-organizations, mergers,
and acquisitions.
Larry Carr has been an active member of the community for
many years. He has served as President of the Edmonton Bar Association, Chair
of both the Business Law and Securities Law Sections of the Canadian Bar
Association, President of both Edmonton-Whitemud Provincial and
Edmonton-Strathcona Federal P.C. Associations, Trustee of Capital City
Savings and Credit Union I-Plan, member of the Board of Directors of the
Edmonton Chamber of Commerce, and member of the Advisory Committee of the
Alberta Securities Commission. Larry is currently a member of the Board of
Directors of the Mortgage Loans association of Alberta.
Mr. Carr has achieved Distinguished Toastmaster status in
Toastmasters International. He has been a frequent Speaker and Lecturer for
various organizations on a variety of legal topics, including "Going Public"
and "Directors and Officers Liabilities - Corporate Governance" for the
Institute of Chartered Accountants, and the collection of receivables for the
Credit Institute of Canada.
Ms. Kim Duke, The Sales Divas
Kim
Duke is Head Training Queen of The Sales Divas … a company that

Her extensive sales background was based in the media -
15 years working with CTV and CBC Television in sales and management. She
is a national award winning salesperson - and was the second youngest sales
manager in Canada for CBC Television.
Now Kim is a successful entrepreneur - providing training

She has had appearances on the Life Network, Global and
Shaw TV, as well as national and provincial magazines and newspapers. Kim
also writes articles for newsletters and websites through-out the world.

Mr. Kelly Faubert, Business Development Bank of Canada
Kelly
Faubert has been in the financial industry for the past 14 years
working through different roles to his current role as Account
Manager, Business Development. He has been in the small business
sector for the past 5 years, 2 of those with BDC. Kelly is relatively
new to the Edmonton and surrounding area market but is enthusiastic
in meeting new and existing companies to help them with their
financial needs. His open-mindedness and creativity are value

Mr. Laurie Hawn, Union Securities Ltd.
Laurie
Hawn was born in 1947 and raised in Winnipeg. He joined the
Royal Canadian Air Force in 1964 and received his pilot wings
and Queen’s Commission in Gimli, Manitoba in January 1967. He
flew the T-33 Silver Star as an Instructor Pilot, and the CF-104
Starfighter and CF-18 Hornet as a Tactical Fighter Pilot and
Instructor Pilot.
In thirty years in the Air Force, Laurie rose to the
rank of Lieutenant-Colonel; held several high profile staff positions;
commanded a CF-18 Tactical Fighter Squadron; and was the operational
commander at 4 Wing Cold Lake, supervising six squadrons, 1,800 personnel,
multi-million dollar budgets, and multi-billion dollar assets. He has
been based in Europe and throughout Canada.
Upon retirement in 1994, Laurie entered the financial
services business. Initially mutual fund and life insurance licensed, he
became an Investment Advisor and opened a new Edmonton Branch for Global
Securities Ltd. in 1997. He is currently Branch Manager for Union
Securities Ltd. in Edmonton and a founding member of the Investment
Advisors Association of Canada.
Laurie has been active in community affairs. He was a
Member of the Board of the Cold Lake Credit Union; Member of the Advisory
Committee for Masakhane College in Cold Lake; Member of the Board Canadian
Institute of Management Cold Lake Chapter; Executive Director of the
Edmonton International Air Show 1996; and been an active volunteer and
fund-raiser in various community projects.
Laurie and Judy (IA with Union Securities) have been
married for 36 years and they have two grown children, Jennifer (accountant)
and Robb (IA with Union Securities).
Mr. Steve Lamphier, Lambridge Capital Partners
Steve Lamphier brings to his Canadian clientele over 30
years of financing success! An Albertan since 1978, Steve has been a major
part of the Alberta business community, partnering with a variety of
established private companies facing financing challenges, including
expansions, acquisitions, restructuring and sales.
Steve's diverse financing expertise started with an
education at both the Universities of Western Ontario and McGill. Steve

Office of the CIO, its first business plan, a governance model, and
government-wide information resource management strategy.
Currently, Tom also serves as a sessional instructor
in the University of Alberta's Faculty of Business, teaching Internet
and Strategy. In 2002, Tom became one of the co-Chairs of Edmonton's
ICT Cluster supporting EDE's Greater Edmonton Competitiveness Strategy.
Tom also serves on the InfoTech Alberta Board and Minister Victor
Doerkson's ICT Investment Review Committee.

Ms. Karen Shaw, Export Development Canada
Ms.Shaw graduated from McMaster University in 1986 with a Bachelor of
Commerce degree and achieved her Certified Management Accountant
designation in 1992. Upon graduation from McMaster, Karen worked as an
analyst with Canadian Pacific Limited and since 1989 she has worked for
Export Development Canada (EDC). Prior to opening EDC's Edmonton office
in August, 1997, she worked with EDC in both Ottawa and Toronto.
EDC provides trade finance and risk management services
to Canadian exporters in up to 200 markets. Founded in 1944, EDC is a
federal Crown corporation that operates as a commercial financial
institution.
Karen has two children and when she finds spare time
she enjoys running, camping and fly-fishing.
Mr. Jim Wright, Economic Developer, Strathcona County
Jim's education includes a B.Sc. in Finance and Business Economics from the
University of Oregon, an MA in Asian Studies also from the University of Oregon, Ph.D. course
work in Chinese Studies and Economics at the University of Alberta, a Basic Industrial
Development Course at the University of Colorado; and he is a graduate, Economic Development
Institute, University of Oklahoma.
Jim and his wife Marianne have made Strathcona County
their home for the past fifteen years. He is currently Coordinator,
Business Development and Investment for Strathcona County. His efforts are
mainly concentrated on coordinating and streamlining the relocation and
clustering of major industrial projects within the County. Jim has 20
years of economic development experience at the municipal level in both
Canada and the United States and with the Alberta Government. Other
experience includes business consulting, international trade, technology
market research, and teaching Marketing for Athabasca University. He is a
Past President, Pacific Northwest Economic Development Council; Past
President, Hong Kong Canada Business Association (Edmonton Section); and
former member National Board of Directors, Hong Kong Canada Business
Association.
